Bullying is one of the most underrated and enduring problems in schools today. Teachers, administrators, support staff and parents need to TAKE ACTION AGAINST BULLYING.

This series of 4 – 90 minute Webinars invites schools to take part in learning about and building a program to TAKE ACTION AGAINST BULLYING. Each session will take participants through various aspects of bullying and show staff how to build safe and caring community school environments.

All sessions are interactive and the activities and extensions are deigned to encourage conversations and planning sessions

Part 1:
Tuesday, February 26

This introductory session will take participants through a clear definition of bullying, what it looks like and how bullying differs from other “bad play” interactions between students. Workshop members will receive an overview of the steps that schools need to undertake in order to implement an anti bullying program, as well as a “homework” assignment to complete before the next session (where possible).

Assignment: Administer the online (or paper) survey to students and parents

Part 2:
Monday, March 10

Workshop participants will closely examine the steps necessary to implement an Anti Bullying program. Cindi will overview the 6 week program and provide tips for schools in terms of setting up action plans and timelines. The DVD will be reviewed and the 4 Anti Bullying teaching strategies will be presented. Participants will be introduced to a progressive discipline model as well as a system to track the occurrence of bullying behaviors. School staffs will also be introduced to some different models that will help the school to build a Code of Conduct to address these behaviors in the school community.

Assignment: Determining the safe and unsafe areas of the school: student survey

Part 3:
Tuesday, March 25

In this session participants will be introduced to the world of cyber bullying. This is a vast, and relatively unexplored territory and workshop attendees will have a look at how to address this alarming issue in their schools. Various media examples will be used to explain this phenomenon. Participants will be shown “safe” guidelines to share with students when using “Facebook”, “Myspace” or other youth-based profile and communication bulletin boards.

Assignment: School policies: to what extent do your school policies protect students from bullying and Cyber bullying? What changes would you suggest to school policies?

Part 4:
Thursday, March 27

In this final session, all participants will be provided with an overview of ideas and activities to accentuate the positive behaviors in all schools and build up the culture of care and safety for students. Cindi will introduce “Circles of Support” and other pro active ideas to include all students in the positive school culture.
